It is necessary that the community have means of generating funds
to purchase items which are not grown or manufactured by its
members, pay state land taxes, pay for "outside services", pay for
"outside" medical care when necessary and provide some personal
funds
for its members.
It is intended that these funds be generated by cottage industries.
These industries are intended to be group projects.
[ Individual (person or family) private income projects are
possible
for those who chose to engage in them as long as such projects
do not interfere with the group income projects. ]
We have started several support-projects, including:
The Ozark Seed Exchange - a website dedicated to helping preserve the genetic heritage of non-genetically engineered seeds.
Some possible, though by no means all, VOL Community group support projects:
1. Providing various services for pay:
- Misc classes/retreats held at the VOL Community land
- Repair of computers and other electronic devices
- Desktop publishing
- Camping facility
- Internet based services like web design, hosting, etc.
- Astrology and numerology readings via mail
2. Raising/growing various items for sale:
- Sorghum-growing/processing
- Golden seal growing
- Mushroom growing
- Herbs growing
- Luffas growing
- Melon growing
- Truck garden-vege sales
- Honey production
- Gerbils raising
